TRAFFIC

Holiday HOV Lane Changes Befuddle Va. Drivers

Reversal of the HOV lanes yesterday on Interstates 95 and 395 to help holiday traffic flow caused confusion in Virginia.

Notices were sent to media outlets, and signs have been placed along the affected roads. But police and transportation department dispatchers said they heard all day from befuddled drivers.

HOV lanes will be northbound until 8 p.m. today; southbound from 9:30 p.m. today to 1 a.m. tomorrow; and then northbound again from 3 a.m. tomorrow to 11 a.m. Monday. Lanes closed for construction and maintenance work also have been opened temporarily to help ease holiday traffic.
