Outlook

While the Sol are the first team in the WPS to secure a playoff spot and are likely to clinch the regular season title and a pass into the championship game, the Freedom now find themselves in a logjam in the middle of the pack.

Currently in fourth place with 16 points, Washington is a few points away from second place but just four points out of last place. The Freedom fell, 2-1, to Chicago on Wednesday, making its remaining seven games critical.

Washington has struggled against the Sol, losing twice and being outscored 5-1. Los Angeles has lost just once this season, on May 2 to Boston, and features a dynamic attack led by the world's best player and reigning WPS Player of the Week, Brazilian forward Marta.

Washington, meanwhile, has now dropped two straight and has scored just three goals in its past five matches, going 1-3-1 in those games.
