Arlington County police have yet to identify the man who shot an Apple store employee in Clarendon yesterday morning in a back storeroom as more than three dozen shoppers milled about the showroom, police said today.

Police released a surveillance video of the incident that shows the employee, whose name was not released, at the open back door of the store around 10:15 a.m. The suspect, wearing a baseball cap, enters with a handgun and leads the employee off camera. Police said the suspect shot the employee in the right shoulder. A second video clip shows the man running out of the back door carrying a gun.

An Apple employee who heard the shot discovered the wounded woman and yelled for someone to call 911 as the staff ushered customers out, police said. Some of the customers alerted other stores in the busy Market Common shopping area in the 2700 block of Clarendon Blvd. and told them to lock their doors, police said.

A doctor who was nearby assisted the victim until emergency responders arrived, said Arlington police spokeswoman Detective Crystal Nosal.

The victim, 26, remains hospitalized today in serious but stable condition and has spoken with investigators, but was under sedation and will likely be interviewed several more times, Nosal said. Its unclear whether the suspect demanded cash or merchandise but Nosal said police don't believe the shooter knew the victim. Nosal called the incident "very unusual" for the area.

"Other than larcenies, shoplifting, Clarendon doesn't have large violent crimes like this," Nosal said.

Police described the suspect as an African American male in his 20s or 30s, between 5'7" and 6' tall, with a medium build and possible facial hair. He was last seen fleeing the area on foot, wearing a light-colored, short-sleeve shirt, light-colored pants and a dark cap with lettering. He was carrying a handgun.
