Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will hold an information session for people interested in becoming advocates for abused or neglected children. 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Reston Community Center at Lake Anne, 1609-A Washington Plaza N., Reston. 703-273-3526, Ext. 22; ekosarin@casafairfax.org.

The Fairfax County fire and rescue departments need operational and administrative volunteers. Operational volunteers participate in fire and rescue activities; administrative volunteers help with business operations. All fire and rescue departments in the county are accepting applications for volunteers. 703-246-2295, vms.fcvfra.org.

The Reston Association needs volunteers for the 2009 Reston Festival on July 11 and 12. An orientation for volunteers will be 6-7 p.m. July 10 at the Reston Town Center pavilion. Contact Ha Brock at 703-435-7986, habrock@reston.org.

The Library of Congress needs docent volunteers 18 and older to provide tours of the Thomas Jefferson Building. The library's visitor services office provides an intensive 16-week training period. Upon completion of training, docents sign up for four-hour shifts each week. The next training class is from Sept. 8 to Dec. 17. 202-707-9867.

The Ignation Volunteer Corps, an interdenominational community service organization, needs volunteers 50 and older to provide goods and services to people in need, including employment assistance, life-skills training, grant writing, advocacy, early childhood education, child care, crisis intervention and shelter and transitional housing services. The Jewish Council for the Aging's Senior Tech Computer Center needs volunteers to teach computer technology to senior citizens. Classes, which are in computer basics and intermediate and advanced computer technology, meet two hours a week for six weeks at the Landmark Shopping Center, Alexandria. Our Daily Bread needs volunteers for several projects this summer, including collecting and delivering nonperishable food on several Sundays in August and September.
