'Ain't Misbehavin' At Olney Theatre
Olney Theatre Center's Historic Stage is the place to be if you want to hear the sassy jazz for which Thomas Wright "Fats" Waller was known. "Ain't Misbehavin'," with a book by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby Jr., brings back the exuberance, musical joy and energy of 1930s Harlem. The show, which opened yesterday and runs through Aug. 2, boasts 30 Fats Waller tunes including "Honeysuckle Rose," "The Joint Is Jumpin' " and "I Can't Give You Anything but Love." The ensemble cast includes Curtis Bannister, Kelli Blackwell, Jesaira L. Glover, Leanto E. Jones and Shaunté Corrina Tabb. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays, 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Sundays and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. There will be no evening show July 19. Celebrate Damascus Begins Tomorrow
The annual Celebrate Damascus event will take place tomorrow and Saturday in a variety of places. At 7 p.m. Friday, the 14th annual community parade will be held beginning at Damascus High School, 25921 Ridge Rd. The evening continues with musical entertainment on Lewis Drive, and fireworks will bring the day to a close at about 9:20.
Saturday's festivities start at 9 a.m. with a flea market at the Park and Ride lot at routes 124 and 108. The Heart of Maryland Classic Chevy Club continues with a car show on Lewis Drive. The Damascus Library, 9701 Main St., will host musicians and other performers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a performance in the library's auditorium of "Green Golly and Her Golden Flute." Throughout the day, children can play games and take part in activities. Food vendors will be at several sites. Everyone is invited to attend. For information, call Linda Panagoulis, 240-777-6935.
