Accokeek Park to Receive $1 Million for Restoration

Piscataway Park in Accokeek will receive $1 million in federal stimulus money to help restore two acres of shoreline along the Potomac River. The money will also be used to help protect 30 acres of freshwater wetland and a threatened Native American archaeological site.

Piscataway is one of 50 habitat restoration projects nationwide that will benefit from $167 million in funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The money will help restore damaged wetlands, shellfish beds and coral reefs, and reopen fish passages in coastal and Great Lakes communities.

Foreign Exchange Program Seeks Hosts for Students

International Fellowship, a nonprofit student exchange program, is inviting volunteer families or individuals to host foreign exchange students during the coming school year.

County Educator Wins Fitness Leadership Award

The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports has chosen Denise Moser to receive its Community Leadership Award this year.

The award is given annually to people who improve the lives of individuals within their community by providing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activities or fitness-related programs.

Moser founded the nonprofit organization Functional Fitness 4 Kids and works as a middle school health and physical educator. She leads programs in Prince George's County, Fairfax and Alexandria. She was one of 16 award recipients.

Street Improvements Focus of Hyattsville Talk

Hyattsville will host a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday to discuss improvements for the city's streets.

Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are invited to speak. Submit comments via trafficstudy@hyattsville.org.

The meeting will be in the Council Chambers on the third floor of the City Municipal Building, 4310 Gallatin St.
