Injured Bird Attacked
OXON HILL, Indian Head Hwy., 2100 block, June 5. A worker reported that a black-and-gray bird, similar to a vulture, with an apparently broken wing, had been walking near her store for almost 10 hours. People had started to throw things at the bird. An animal control officer took the injured bird to a wildlife rehabilitator June 6.
Stray Shepherd Seeks Shelter
DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Ritchie Rd., 2000 block, June 6. Someone reported that a very thin dog, wearing a collar and leash, was under a van in a church parking lot. An officer picked up an injured 2-year-old black male German shepherd whose chain was embedded in his neck, which was severely infected. The dog was taken to an animal hospital, where it was treated, and then taken to a rescue group.
Snake Caught by Glue Trap
GLENN DALE, Wood Pointe Terr., 10600 block, June 6. Animal management received a report of a blacksnake caught on a glue trap in a garage. An officer returned the healthy snake to the wild.
Blackbird in the Driveway
TEMPLE HILLS, Warwick Dr., 7200 block, June 6. A woman reported that a blackbird in her driveway was fluttering its wings but could not fly. An officer transported it to a wildlife rehabilitator.
Rottweiler in the Back Yard
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Quietview Dr., 900 block, June 7. A man reported a large dog inside his back yard under a tree. An animal control officer removed a 15-month-old black male Rottweiler wearing a black harness but no identification. The dog was reunited with his owner June 13.
Pet Adoption Event
The Prince George's County SPCA-Humane Society is sponsoring cat and dog adoptions from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Calverton PetSmart, 12020 Cherry Hill Rd., Silver Spring.
