WIZARDS INSIDER
Free Agent Signing Period Opens
Now, the Wizards are not expecting to sign a starting power forward-center [in free agency], but they do hope to find someone who can play 10-15 minutes off the bench and provide some veteran front-court help for starters Brendan Haywood and Antawn Jamison and reserves Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee and Dominic McGuire. The Wizards understand that what they are willing to offer -- a one-year deal at the league minimum (or perhaps the full biannual exception at $1.99 million) -- isn't attractive right now, but it could be next month . . . when teams start running out of money and 20-25 guys are fighting for 10-15 jobs.

TERRAPINS INSIDER
Catching Up With Greivis Vasquez
While attending the LeBron James Skills Academy in Akron, Ohio, I caught up with Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez, who was one of 20 college players selected to attend the camp. Vasquez said he's mostly been resting his legs and lifting weights the past few weeks after deciding to pull his name out of the NBA draft and return to Maryland for his senior season. Later this summer, Vasquez plans to play for the Venezuelan national team in the FIBA Americas Championship from Aug. 26 to Sept. 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As for next season, Vasquez said he has big plans for the Terrapins.
