HEALTH
Maryland Records 2nd Swine Flu Death
Maryland health officials announced yesterday the second swine flu-related death in the state. The person was a Baltimore area adult with serious underlying medical conditions. Officials did not release additional information about the person.
In June, a Baltimore area woman was the first in the state to die of the H1N1 virus. Virginia has reported two swine flu-related deaths, including that of an Arlington County area man.
To date, 686 cases of the H1N1 virus have been confirmed in Maryland. With an unusually high number of summer flu cases, health officials across the country have urged residents to wash their hands and cover their mouths when they cough. Those with underlying health problems, including cardiac and respiratory conditions, and those in high-risk categories such as the very young, the elderly and pregnant women are urged to take extra precautions if they come down with flulike conditions.

CRIME
Md. Man Pleads Guilty to Murder
A Fort Washington man pleaded guilty yesterday to murdering a Chinese food deliveryman during a robbery last summer, Prince George's County State's Attorney Glenn F. Ivey said.
Lloyd C. Everett, 19, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and using a handgun in a felony in the June 19, 2008, slaying of Jin Chin, 22, of Temple Hills. Everett placed a phony food order and shot Chin when the deliveryman arrived, prosecutors said.
Everett faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 20.
