A 9-year-old boy hit by a car while riding his bike in Charles County yesterday is now in fair condition, authorities said today.
The boy, of Indian Head, was taken to Children's National Medical Center with life-threatening injuries yesterday, according to police. His condition was upgraded today, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The boy was pedaling around the front of a parked ice cream truck on Heather Drive when he was struck by a Dodge Stratus headed south on the 6900 block of Heather Drive in the Bryans Road area, police said. The accident occurred just before 7 p.m., police said.
The boywas flown to Children's National Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Stratus, a 16-year-old girl from Bryans Road, stopped after the accident and has not been charged, police said. She did not appear to be speeding, police said.
Police did not identify the boy or the driver of the car. They said the boy had been staying at his grandmother's house at the time of the accident.
