Thomas Boswell began his July 8 Sports column, "In Need of a Major Overhaul," by saying "Blow up the Nats." To that I would add: "Blow up that ballpark." I recently drove up from Charlottesville with my two young daughters for our first Nationals game, and I was deeply disappointed by the experience.
The night began with a 100-yard walk from the Metro, during which we were pestered by scalpers.
We spent the next few hours in a soul-less stadium that seemed more oriented toward taking my last dollar than hosting a baseball game. As someone who grew up in Kansas City during the George Brett era and who lived and died for Major League Baseball during my childhood, it's discouraging to live in a region occupied by the Peter Angelos-owned Baltimore Orioles and the Lerner family's Washington Nationals.
