During our online chat (most Mondays at 2 p.m.), you ask and we answer your travel questions -- mostly. Here's one we couldn't get to last week.
We grabbed two-for-one airfares to Canada last week and made plans for a trip to Banff over Labor Day. I know it's a skiing destination, but any suggestions for fall activities? Do you know if the leaves will have started to change?
Visiting over Labor Day, you'll be a bit early for fall color; mid-September is the best time to see the larches turn to gold in the high alpines. But don't despair, there will still be nature trails to hike and lakes to canoe in, as well as scenic drives, mountain biking, boat tours and gondola rides, not to mention shopping and spas. Just remember that mountain weather can change dramatically and without notice, so pack warm clothes and dress in layers.
