I just finished reading the lead July 4 editorial, titled "The Fourth of July."
I was expecting a patriotic comment, something celebrating the country's birthday. Instead I read a jumbled analysis describing Americans as a rowdy and frequently lawless bunch and implying that we might have been better off staying a colony -- "After all, Canada's not such a bad place, eh?"
Of course that may be the editorial position of The Washington Post (and it wouldn't surprise me). However, July 4 was certainly not the day to lead with that editorial.
