At the beginning of yet another plea for bipartisanship, David S. Broder ["The Limits of 60 Votes," op-ed, July 5] dismissed Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) as a "loud-mouthed former comedian." How typical of the Washington establishment press to ignore the facts of a two-year campaign and an eight-month recount battle that a court had to settle.
Mr. Franken was a serious candidate; he is well versed in the issues and concerns of the people of Minnesota. He kept his eye on the ball and did not grandstand.
Former comedian? Guilty. "Loud-mouthed"? That was a lazy, ill-considered smear.
