Rockies LHP Alan Embree likely is out for the season after a line drive fractured his right tibia on Friday night. He had surgery yesterday.

Atlanta's Martin Prado hit a 3-2 fastball back up the middle in the seventh inning of the Braves' 4-1 victory. The ball ricocheted off Embree's right shin to 3B Ian Stewart.

"It sounded awful," Rockies C Chris Iannetta said. "I couldn't even track the ball it was hit so hard. It sounded really bad."

Embree tried to stand up but immediately laid on the grass in front of the mound and was driven off the field on a cart.

Embree is 2-2 with a 5.84 ERA in 36 appearances.

-- GIANTS: All-star RHP Matt Cain left yesterday's game against the Padres after getting hit by a liner in his pitching arm during the second inning.

Cain was hit just above his right elbow by San Diego pitcher Tim Stauffer's line drive with two outs. The ball ricocheted toward the third base dugout as Cain grimaced in pain while walking around on the field.
