With regard to bonuses to "top corporate executives" ["AIG Seeks Clearance For More Bonuses," front page, July 10], imagine the following scenario:

"I'm very sorry, Son. I know I promised to take you to Disneyland, but since Daddy lost his job we just can't afford to do it."

Most children can understand that changed circumstances sometimes nullify promises made with the best of intentions. Surely this is not too difficult for "top corporate executives" to understand.
