Regarding the Washington Nationals' decision to fire manager Manny Acta late Sunday night:

Responsibility for the Nationals' dismal performance rests squarely with the team's ownership and the priority it has consistently placed on minimizing costs. When thrift leads, for example, to starting the season with a pitching staff with the lowest combined experience of any major league team, the consequences should be no surprise. Shame on the Nationals for trying to shift the blame to Mr. Acta, a highly skilled manager of a very low-skill team.
