Buying Walla Walla Sweet Onions

Walla Walla sweet onions are available from mid-June through September. Order them directly from the growers; a list is available at http://www.sweetonions.org. As with buying Maryland blue crabs, you need to specify which size you want. Shipping onions are typically 3 1/4 inches in diameter, so if you're looking for the colossal 4 1/2 -inch specimens, be sure to ask specifically for those.
