-- Tourism officials in New York state have partnered with more than 250 hotels across the state to offer a third free night for stays through Sept. 7. For example, the Mansfield, a boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan, is offering a nightly rate starting at $259 for the first two nights with the third free. -- Amtrak is offering 25 percent discounts on its routes between Washington and Boston. For example, round-trip fare from Union Station in the District to New York's Penn Station is $98 for Northeast Regional service (usual fare is $144) and $198 for Acela Express (usually $266). Tickets must be purchased 14 days in advance; valid through Sept. 3. Also, for Northeast Regional service, up to two children ages 2 to 15, accompanied by an adult, pay half the discounted fare ($49 round trip Washington to New York). -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts has reduced rates by as much as 50 percent at about 600 hotels in North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific. -- Barges in France has reduced its rates on several canal cruises in Ireland, Scotland and France. For example, a six-night cruise through France's Burgundy region aboard the 14-passenger Luciole departing Aug. 9 is $2,000 per person double, a savings of $950. -- The Yachts of Seabourn has sale fares on 10 cruises departing between November and March. For example, a seven-night Caribbean Gems cruise departing March 25 and sailing round trip from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, now starts at $1,999 per person double (plus $59 port charges); brochure rate was $5,400. -- Icelandair has sale fares from New York to destinations throughout Europe for travel departing Sept. 13-Oct. 24. Round-trip fare, before taxes, is $399 to Amsterdam; Paris; London; Oslo; Stockholm; Copenhagen; Reykjevik, Iceland; Frankfurt, Germany; Glasgow, Scotland; or Manchester, England. -- Southwest is offering a systemwide sale for travel Aug. 18-Nov. 18. For example, round-trip fare on nonstop flights from Washington Dulles to Chicago Midway is $159, including taxes. -- Foreign Independent Tours has reduced its prices on packages to Egypt. A six-night Cairo and Alexandria: From the Pyramids to the Beach tour starts at $1,499 (plus $185 taxes) for the Aug. 20 departure. Package includes round-trip airfare from BWI Marshall to Cairo, three nights in downtown Cairo at the Shepheard Hotel, three nights at the Renaissance Hotel in Alexandria, daily breakfasts, transfers and full-day sightseeing tour in Cairo and Alexandria with lunches.
