NUPTIALS
How they met: In 2005, Emily and Adam joined the same kickball team as a way to make new friends. At a postgame visit to Adams Mill, they exchanged phone numbers over the flip-cup table.
The proposal: Adam left the receipt for the engagement ring on his dresser, so Emily "found" the ring while "cleaning" in his underwear drawer. After confessing her discovery, they spent a weekend at a historic bed-and-breakfast in Winchester, Va.
The one thing they would never change about each other: Emily: "His ability to rationally break down and discuss problems while remaining calm. I freak out over everything. He's wonderful at talking me down. It's probably had a positive effect on my blood pressure." Adam: "Her random outbursts of joy. Emily can break into song, start skipping, or jump up and down repeatedly at the drop of a hat. I wish I had that kind of enthusiasm about everything in life."
The place that means the most to them: "Fantasy Island. It's a cheesy amusement park on Long Beach Island in New Jersey. We really love skee ball. Adam has been collecting tickets since he was a teenager. Every time we go, we make sure to save all of our tickets. . . . It's our retirement plan. One day, we'll trade them in for the deed to the place. "
Wedding details: The couple's wedding fell on Emily's birthday and July Fourth weekend, so they combined celebrations. The outdoor reception featured a root-beer-float bar (Emily's favorite), steel-drum band, pink lemonade stand, lawn games such as cornhole and bocce ball, and a sparkler send-off for the newlyweds.
