1992 Sarah Palin began her political career in 1992 in her home town of Wasilla, winning a seat on the City Council. She would go on to win two terms as the Wasilla mayor.

2006 Palin is sworn in Dec. 4, 2006, as governor of Alaska.

Fall 2008 Palin becomes a national political figure when Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) taps her as his running mate during the presidential election campaign.

Late 2008 After losing her bid for the White House, Palin returns as governor of Alaska. But with 18 months still left in her term, Palin abruptly announced this month that she is quitting her job as governor.
