Defending a Reporter's Behavior at Gitmo

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

The depiction of Miami Herald reporter Carol Rosenberg in the July 25 article "Military and Media Clash in Complaint," bears no resemblance to the Carol Rosenberg I know from more than a year of monitoring the military commissions at Guantanamo Bay.

Navy spokesman Jeffrey Gordon's sexual harassment complaint against Ms. Rosenberg and his allegation that Ms. Rosenberg has "abused [him] worse than the detainees have been abused" defies reality.

Ms. Rosenberg is a tenacious reporter whose commitment to the Guantanamo story is unparalleled. Through her dogged reporting, she has exposed the injustices at the naval base. Those of us who have regularly visited the base know Ms. Rosenberg as a welcoming and gracious colleague who has generously shared her knowledge with others.
