QuestionAnswer
A Post Face Off?: With news yesterday that Tony Kornheiser wants to return to radio circa Labor Day, you guys could end up hosting shows against each other at the same time. Do you think you would hurt each other's audiences? Kornheiser is coming back?!! OMG, I'm shaking as I type. Seriously, Tony is not writing for us anymore. . . . So I'm not really worried about an intra-office showdown. He's got a built-in, time-tested audience and it will be interesting to see if that bedrock of support is still there. He always said the radio was the medium that he would have some longevity in, and anyone who's listened to him over the years can't help but agree with him. Look, if I have a quarter of the success Tony has, I would take that.
Silver Spring: Aloha, SeƱor Wise. . . . When are the Wizards going to finally realize that the experiment called Andray "Party All the Time" Blatche is not working and cut this turkey loose? We've started ending the show with "Magnum, P.I." as homage to growing up in the islands. (Another crazy story: I actually was an extra on "Magnum" -- made $55 to drive a pedicab across the set one day when I had hair). Oh, yes, Andray Blatche. I wanted him and Nick Young traded badly this summer for a veteran post player. But, look, he has the tools. I will give him half of this season to show me he belongs on this team.
If It's Perfect: If the show went exactly the way you wanted it, i.e., if everything evolved and you had the right voice and mix of guests, etc., what would it sound like? What other shows do you have in mind? It would be like the last 15 minutes of last Friday's show, when Shaquille O'Neal called in and gave us radio gold. If Shaq calls in every day, I'm telling you -- we are going to make it. Really? I just want to get people involved and talking. If they do that -- and it crosses demographics and genders -- I'm happy and I'm sure Bill Rohland would be happy.
Phelps: Thoughts on all this swimsuit nonsense? Should they be banned or should everyone "techno-dope"?I would love to see Tigers Woods with Gene Sarazen's or Ben Hogan's clubs. I'm guessing his woods wouldn't crush the ball 400 yards. Anybody who has ever put a wetsuit on knows the buoyancy it gives you. Now, how do you erase those records at the Ice Cube in Beijing if you take the suits away? Tough question. I don't know, but there is no way Michael Phelps swims better times in London without the same or better suit.
Redskins: Excited about the season or dreading it? Does it just completely wear you down by the end? If we feel it as fans . . . What's [today]? Day 1 of training camp. I'm pumped. Now, in five weeks, I'm done. And then you get up for the season opener and the cycle starts again.
