What to Watch: Cabinet to Begin Self-Check

-- President Obama and Vice President Biden host a reception and dinner at Blair House for members of the Cabinet in the evening, part of a six-month review that resumes on Saturday. Before that, Biden is the keynote speaker Friday at the Urban League's national conference in Chicago, where he is expected to address workforce development.

-- First lady Michelle Obama visits Virginia to attend a homecoming ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk, celebrating the return of the USS Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group and the USNS Comfort from recent deployments.

-- Following the House's passage Thursday of a major food safety bill [Story, A4], Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Margaret Hamburg visit the District's Eastern Market to chat with locals about food safety.

-- The Commerce Department will issue its advance estimate of the second quarter's gross domestic product [Story, A19]. President Obama said Thursday that he expects the report to show that the economy contracted.

-- On what is expected to be the last day of House action before August recess, the Energy and Commerce Committee continues marking up its version of the health-care reform bill.

-- The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee holds a hearing on the "Recovery Act: 160-Day Progress Report for Transportation and Infrastructure Programs."
