Chat Plus: On Once-in-a-Lifetime Turkey Trip, What to See Besides Istanbul?

Sunday, August 2, 2009

During our online chat (most Mondays at 2 p.m.), you ask your travel questions and we answer them -- mostly. Here's one we couldn't get to last week.

Making the trip of a lifetime to Turkey, and we are limited to one week. I'm thinking three full days in Istanbul. But then? Ephesus or Cappadocia?

Decisions, decisions. Obviously you can't skip Istanbul. And no trip to Turkey is complete without visiting Cappadocia's mind-bending landscape, not to mention its cool cave hotels. But you also can't leave without seeing Ephesus, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. No need to agonize. With precision planning, you can visit all three in a week, although you'll have to limit your Istanbul stay to two days. For sample itineraries, see Tom Brosnahan's Turkey Travel Planner Web site, And pack your running shoes.
