At least four people were shot in the District Heights area early Sunday morning after a street robbery turned violent, authorities said.

The shooting occurred just before 3 a.m. near the 6700 block of Atwood Street and the 1900 block of Rochell Avenue, authorities said. Police were called to the area for the report of a robbery, and when they arrived, they found "four to five" victims suffering from gunshot wounds, said Sgt. Michelle Reedy, a Prince George's County Police spokeswoman.

The victims were transported to a local hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries, Reedy said. She said police believe all four victims were targeted to be robbed, though it is not clear by whom.
