4 Md. Robbery Victims Are Shot

At least four people were shot in the District Heights area early Sunday after a street robbery turned violent, authorities said.

The shooting occurred just before 3 a.m. near Atwood Street and Rochell Avenue, authorities said. Police were called to the area for a reported robbery and found "four to five" victims suffering from gunshot wounds, said Sgt. Michelle Reedy, a Prince George's County police spokeswoman.

The victims were taken to a hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Reedy said.

She said police think that all four were targeted robbery victims, although it was not clear by whom.

2 Charged in Fatal D.C. Shooting

An 18-year-old and a 16-year-old from Northeast Washington were arrested Thursday and charged with the murder of 20-year-old Demetrius Matthews. Matthews, of Hyattsville, was shot several times May 17 in the 1900 block of Second Street NE and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force worked with the Fifth District U.S. Marshals Service and Emergency Response Team to execute search warrants and arrest Cornell Scrivner, 18, and a 16-year old suspect whose name was withheld. The suspects were charged with first-degree murder. Police also discovered firearms while executing the search warrants, and Craig Peacock of Northeast Washington, who is not a suspect in the homicide, faces weapons charges.
