Prince George's County police are investigating a quadruple shooting at an Oxon Hill apartment building overnight that left one man dead and another critically injured, a police spokesman said Tuesday morning.

The shooting, which was reported just before 1 a.m., apparently involved people who all knew one another, said Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a county police spokesman.

Televised news reports said it happened in a stairwell of the Portabello apartment complex in the 6400 block of Livingston Road.

Two men and two women were shot, Rodriguez said. One man was pronounced dead at a hospital; the other was in critical condition and receiving treatment. The two women, who were also struck, received injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Rodriguez said no additional information was immediately available.
