LAND

-- The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism is giving a free fourth night, plus hundreds of dollars in coupons, through its Sizzlin' Sampler promotion. Receive a free fourth night at nearly 30 participating properties on St. John, St. Croix and St. Thomas, in addition to a $50 dining coupon, a $50 attractions coupon and a booklet of discounts for island businesses. Hotel rates vary. For example, a room at the Tamarind Reef Hotel on St. Croix starts at $200 a night, and an eco-cottage at the Virgin Island Campground on Water Island, a short ferry ride from St. Thomas, starts at $99, depending on length of stay. SEA

-- Oceania Cruises is offering two-for-one fares, plus additional discounts of up to $4,000 and free airfare, on South American sailings in 2010. The promotion, valid on three itineraries, also includes a $500 shipboard credit and free prepaid gratuities, both per cabin. Savings and prices vary per trip. For example, the South American Splendors trip -- a 19-day cruise from Valparaiso, Chile, to Rio de Janeiro, with departures in January and February -- costs $4,499 per person double, which breaks down to a two-for-one fare on the brochure rate of $9,998 and a $500 discount per person. AIR

-- Air Jamaica has fall sale fares to two cities in Jamaica. Nonstop fares from Baltimore to Kingston or Montego Bay start at $198 round trip, plus up to $100 taxes. Book by Aug. 11; travel Sept. 6-Oct. 31. Two-day minimum stay is required. By comparison, other airlines are charging nearly twice as much for nonstop service. PACKAGE

-- Foreign Independent Tours has organized a special food and wine package to Malta, an island nation in the Mediterranean. The six-night vacation costs $1,899 per person double and includes round-trip air from Washington, accommodations at the five-star Palace Hotel in Sliema, daily breakfasts, two dinners and four lunches at local restaurants (all three courses, with a half-bottle of local wine), tours and visits to two wineries. Taxes of about $195 are extra. For the lowest rate, depart Nov. 17; book by Oct. 5. Priced separately, airfare runs about $1,000 and the hotel is about $123 a night.
