Work Closures Continue at Fort Totten

Friday, August 7, 2009; 3:11 PM

Metro announced Friday that the Red Line at the Fort Totten Station will close from 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday on the weekends of Aug. 14-16 and Aug. 21-23 so crews can replace track circuits in the area around the June 22 crash that killed nine and injured 80. In addition to the weekend closures, Metro said trains heading both directions will share one track between Fort Totten and Takoma from 10 p.m. until closing through August.

The expected delays offer further evidence that the National Transportation Safety Board's July 31 announcement that it was releasing the section of track where the crash occurred back to Metro does not mean operations will soon return to normal.

Green Line service from Fort Totten will continue during the weekend Red Line closures, from Aug. 14-16 and 21-23. Shuttles will transport Red Line passengers among the Brookland-CUA, Fort Totten and Takoma stations.
