Health Center to Offer Free School Physicals

The Greater Prince William Community Health Center will offer free school physicals for uninsured students next weekend.

The physicals will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the center, 4379 Ridgewood Center Dr., Suite 102. Health center officials said they are responding to the need for affordable health care in the county.

The center is a medical home for the insured and uninsured of the community. Each year, it serves more than 4,000 residents, providing routine checkups, sick visits and chronic care management. It will expand this year to include dental, prenatal and behavioral health-care services.

Volunteers Plan Cleanup For County's Newest Park

Conservation organizations and the Nokesville Horse Society will host a cleanup event at Silver Lake this month to prepare the park for its grand opening in October.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the park, which is accessible off Antioch Road past the Gainesville Volunteer Fire Department. The Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition and the Prince William Park Authority helped organize the day. People will clean up debris and litter and help reestablish miles of trails.

Silver Lake, which was donated to the county in 2006 by the Toll Brothers building company, was transferred to the Park Authority in June. The organization will open the 230-acre park to the public for horseback riding, swimming and hiking.

Brentsville Site to Appear On TV's 'Ghost Hunters'

After being investigated for paranormal activity, the Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre will be featured on the nationally televised show "Ghost Hunters" this week.

The show will air at 9 p.m. Wednesday on the SyFy channel. "Ghost Hunters" features Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson of the Atlantic Paranormal Society. The team investigated the supposedly haunted Brentsville house in the spring after several visitors and community members reported "activity" on the site.

Brentsville, at 12229 Bristow Rd., consists of nearly 30 acres of parkland and five historic structures that interpret the cultural and natural history of Brentsville and Prince William County.
