A man was stabbed to death and another was seriously injured Monday after a domestic dispute inside a College Park home turned violent, police said.
Just before 4 a.m., police were called to 7-Eleven convenience store in the 8900 block of Rhode Island Avenue for a report of two men on the ground in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old and a 19-year-old suffering from stab wounds.
Both were transported to area hospitals, where the 28-year-old later died. The 19-year-old, police said, is expected to live.
Police said the men had been stabbed several minutes earlier inside a one-story, white-paneled home in the 5000 block of Hollywood Road. The men then drove themselves or hitched a ride to the convenience store, where they collapsed in the parking lot, police said.
Police did not identify either man but said the 28-year-old was from Honduras and the 19-year-old was from Mexico. They said it was unclear where the men lived locally, and neither was a college student.
Officer Evan Baxter, a Prince George's County police spokesman, said the stabbing was "an isolated, domestic-related incident between parties that are known to each other." Maj. Andy Ellis, another police spokesman, said investigators had "fairly strong leads" on suspects. Both declined to say exactly what sparked the domestic dispute or provide further specifics.
Dan Knode, 65, a neighbor, said he was awakened by commotion at the house about 3 a.m. He said he heard people arguing in Spanish, then saw two vehicles speed away, one apparently chasing the other.
Knode said the College Park neighborhood, home to a diverse mix of immigrants, University of Maryland college students and longtime homeowners, is generally quiet. He said a woman, her father and two children lived in the home where the stabbing occurred, but it was unclear whether the woman had a boyfriend or husband.
