D.C. police said a man found dead inside a Northeast Washington pizza restaurant Tuesday apparently was a victim of homicide.

The man, whose identity was withheld by police pending notification of his family, was found dead about 1 p.m. inside the Pizza Mart in the 2300 block of Fourth Street, in the Edgewood neighborhood. A police spokeswoman said the victim worked at the restaurant, which was not open at the time his body was discovered.

The spokeswoman, Traci Hughes, declined to say what wounds the man had suffered. A fire department spokesman said that there was evidence of a small fire near the body but that the victim apparently died of "traumatic injuries" unrelated to the fire.
