A Prince George's County police officer was seriously injured Wednesday after she lost control of her cruiser on Ritchie Road and slammed into an electrical pole, authorities said.
The officer was responding to a "priority call" with her lights and siren on just after noon, authorities said, when she came upon another vehicle on Ritchie Road near Sunny Lane in Capitol Heights, authorities said. The officer swerved to avoid that vehicle, authorities said, and in doing so, crashed into the pole.
The officer was taken to a hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, authorities said. Police said it was storming at the time of the crash, which might have contributed to the officer's losing control.
Police did not immediately identify the officer or say what type of call she was responding to. Investigators were still on the crash scene.
