NUPTIALS

How they met: Sarah and Kent spotted each other on Match.com and arranged their first date for Oct. 1, 2006. Their dinner at Black's Bar and Kitchen in Bethesda went so well that they continued to Starbucks for coffee. "Kent and I met at the right time in both of our lives -- both finished with graduate school, both working, both happy with their lives, families and friends, both hoping to meet Mr. or Ms. Right," Sarah says.

The proposal: On Christmas Eve a little more than two years after they met, a water main break blocked Maryland's River Road (and thus, the path to Sarah's parents' place). Kent, determined to get permission to propose, hiked through the woods to get to the house. He then headed home to Sarah and arrived with a gift: a new Scrabble board. On the board: letters glued in place to spell out a proposal.

The wedding: Sarah and Kent's families pitched in, with Sarah's mother acting as wedding planner and aunts making junior bridesmaid dresses and decorative ribbon flowers. The framed Scrabble board was featured at the reception and inspired their game-letter table markers.

Honeymoon plans: The newlyweds spent five days exploring the museums, cathedrals and cafes of Montreal.
