A Glen Burnie woman walking to a church service was killed Saturday after she was struck by a minivan that veered onto the sidewalk, police said.

Mary B. Collins, 59, was preparing to cross Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard near Oak Lane NW when a 1999 Dodge Caravan traveling north lost control and hopped the curb, police said. The van struck Collins, who firefighters found lying in the grass near the front porch of a house in the 7400 block of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

The driver of the minivan, identified by police as Matthew E. Norwood, 26, of Linthicum, did not stop after the crash, authorities said. He and the van were eventually found in the parking lot of the Royal Farms Store on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, police said.

Investigators do not believe speed was a factor in the crash, which occurred just before 7 p.m. Police said in a news release that the investigation is continuing.
