Replacement Begins Of 30th Street Bridge
The D.C. Department of Transportation began the removal and replacement of the 30th Street Bridge between M and K streets Monday.
The bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until July. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The bridge is the first of three that will be replaced over the C&O Canal in Georgetown. The others are Thomas Jefferson and 29th streets bridges. To minimize traffic disruption, DDOT will replace the bridges one at a time, with each taking about a year. Replacing the three bridges will cost about $6 million in federal and local funds.
Drivers and pedestrians can access 30th Street during construction via two-way traffic between the work zone and M Street and designated turnarounds between the work zone and K Street. Thomas Jefferson and 29th streets are designated as detours.
