To create your own group, the easiest way to quickly amass numbers is to go on Twitter and advertise your intentions. Or seek out like-minded cooks/bakers using pertinent keywords. Paula Jones, a food blogger in Raleigh, N.C., who has been baking along with the Bread Baker's Apprentice group, recently formed her own group centered around making a monthly recipe that involves Nutella: key word "#Nutella." Within the first four hours after her first tweet, 25 amateur bakers had signed up.
