Two-Car Crash Injures Seven People in Temple Hills

A two-car crash in Temple Hills on Tuesday morning injured seven people, including a 14-year-old girl who was struck by a car as she tried to cross Brinkley Road to get to her bus stop, police said.

The collision, which occurred just after 7 a.m. near Fisher Road, was sparked when a car traveling east on Brinkley Road swerved to avoid the girl, police said. The car hit the girl, collided head-on with a westbound minivan carrying four people, then struck another teenager on the opposite sidewalk, police and a witness said.

There is no crosswalk in the 3000 block of Brinkley Road -- near the apartment complex known as Brinkley Manor -- where the crash occurred. Police said the girl was struck in the middle of Brinkley Road.

In total, police and fire officials said, seven people were taken to the hospital: the 14-year-old girl, the teenager struck on the sidewalk, the four people in the minivan and the woman driving the car. The 14-year-old girl was flown to Children's National Medical Center with critical injuries, police said, and she was in critical but stable condition Tuesday afternoon.

Three of the people in the minivan were also juveniles, police said.

Police said everyone was expected to live. They did not identify any of the people involved, but a spokeswoman for Prince George's County public schools said the two teenagers were students at Crossland High School. Dennie Kester, the resident manager at Brinkley Manor, said the 14-year-old girl stayed there with her grandfather before and after school. He declined to give the girl's name.
