A community meeting to discuss new uses for Sligo Creek Golf Course in Montgomery County has been indefinitely postponed, parks officials said Tuesday.

The fate of the nine-hole course, heavily used by beginners, women and minority golfers, is up in the air after the county's revenue authority said it could no longer afford to operate it. County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) has said he wants to take another look at options for the course, one of a handful inside the Capital Beltway. County Council member Valerie Ervin (D-Silver Spring) has proposed that the course remain open to the public and be used by disabled veterans.

"It makes sense to hold off our consideration of long-term uses for this park while public discussions continue regarding the current operations," Mary R. Bradford, county parks director, said in a news release. The meeting about new uses had been scheduled for Sept. 9. Continuing to operate the course was not on the list of possibilities because a non-compete clause in a contract with the revenue authority forbids that.

The planning board also recently extended the deadline for the parks staff's draft Sligo Park master plan from Oct. 1 to Nov. 5, Bradford said.
