A Bladensburg man was arraigned Friday in D.C. Superior Court on 40 counts of rape, kidnapping and robbery of five women he met on Craigslist.
With his arms and ankles shackled, Edgar D. Romero, 23, stood next to his attorney as the charges were read before Judge Michael L. Rankin. Prosecutors said that between Dec. 12, 2008, and Feb. 20, 2009, Romero contacted "numerous" women, including the five women who are part of the indictment, through advertisements for "erotic services" on Craigslist.
Prosecutors said he met each victim in a District hotel and then bound and tied them up with cords or duct tape, stole money, cellphones and laptops and sexually assaulted two of the victims.
Romero's trial is scheduled for Dec. 8.
