Both lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge's eastbound span have reopened, but eastbound traffic remains backed up about four miles following a collision on the span earlier Sunday afternoon, police said Sunday.

Westbound traffic is backed up about 1 1/2 miles before the bridge because westbound vehicles are now limited to two lanes while eastbound traffic uses the third lane to allow those back-ups to clear more quickly, said Cpl. Robert Thibodeau, a spokesman for the Maryland Transportation Authority police.

Both lanes of the eastbound span were closed for about an hour following a 12:45 p.m. collision between a vehicle and motorcycle. One lane reopened about 1:45 p.m., after a helicopter left to fly the motorcycle driver to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said. No information was available about the man's injuries.
