Bethesda-Produced 'Equitrekking' Wins Emmy

"Equitrekking," a travel television show produced by a Bethesda company, has received its first Emmy, for outstanding single-camera photography. Darley Newman and Chip Ward, a married couple, and cameraman Greg Barna travel on horseback to remote places and videotape what they find.

"It's an excuse to see the world in a new way," Ward said. "It's a cultural journey more than anything else."

Newman, the show's host, talks with residents about the area's culture, history, horses and reasons to visit. The trio will travel to Jordan on Sept. 19 to tape two episodes.

"Equitrekking" airs locally at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays on WHUT and at various times on WETA Create. "Equitrekking" is shown on U.S. public television channels and on international networks including in Russia, Turkey, France and Italy. The show also received a nomination for outstanding special-class series.
