TRANSPORTATION

Rockville Pike Traffic Shifting

Traffic on Rockville Pike will be shifted to a new bridge over Montrose/Randolph Road during the next two weekends.

Beginning Friday night and continuing into Saturday morning, southbound traffic will be shifted onto the new bridge. Northbound traffic will be shifted beginning Sept. 19 and continue into the morning of Sept. 20.

To avoid delays during the traffic switch, drivers can use Interstate 270. The traffic switch represents the beginning of the final phase of a project involving Rockville Pike and Montrose/Randolph Road in Rockville. The project is scheduled to be completed by late fall 2010.

Metro Plans Festivities in D.C.

Metro will hold elaborate entertainment performances outside the Gallery Place-Chinatown and Dupont Circle stations Friday.

Street performers are not allowed to entertain inside stations, so Metro's Art in Transit program teamed up with the Kennedy Center and the French Embassy to set up four shows at station entrances.

A juggler, magician and acrobat are scheduled to perform in the District, Metro said. Performances will run at both stations from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m.
