Fairfax County appointed a new deputy county executive Monday to oversee the county's human services programs and agencies.

Patricia Harrison, director of the county's Department of Community and Recreation Services, will start as one of the county's four deputy county executives Sept. 28 and be paid $175,000 a year.

Harrison, 51, who in the past went by Pat Franckewitz, replaces Verdia Haywood, who is retiring.

Haywood, 61, has worked for the county government since 1978 and has been a deputy county executive for the past 27 years.
