A fire erupted on the roof of a 10-story office building in the Tysons Corner area of Fairfax County on Tuesday afternoon, causing the building to be evacuated. No one was injured, and the fire has been extinguished, a Fairfax fire spokesman said.
The fire was reported at 2:30 p.m. on top of 2010 Corporate Ridge Dr., just north of Leesburg Pike and its intersection with the Capital Beltway. Fairfax fire Capt. Willie Bailey said three alarms were sounded, bringing 95 firefighters to the scene, because of the building's height and the need to search it after it was evacuated.
The fire was extinguished in about 40 minutes, Bailey said. He said there were workers who had been performing some sort of work on the roof, but it had not been determined what they were doing or how the fire had started.
Several of the floors inside the building were filled with smoke, Bailey said, but no damage estimate was immediately available.
