A D.C. Superior Court judge on Friday sentenced a Southeast Washington man to 39 years in prison for the 2008 shooting death of his estranged wife, just weeks after she filed for divorce.

Judge Herbert B. Dixon Jr. sentenced Myrone Williams, 38, in connection with the March 22, 2008 killing of his wife Bernadette Hamilton, 37.

Prosecutors said Hamilton had taken her two sons, 10 and 12, from the Southeast Washington home the family shared and moved in with her mother. About three weeks after Hamilton had divorce papers sent to Williams, prosecutors said he showed up at her mother's home in the 1500 block of Tanner Place SE and shot Williams 10 times as she was sitting in her parked car.

In June, a jury found Williams guilty of second degree murder while armed.
