Authorities have determined that the body found inside a burning house in Capitol Heights early Saturday was a black male, but have yet to determine his identification or cause of death.

The body was discovered when firefighters responded to a one-story house in the 800 block of Kayak Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m., officials said. Authorities said it appeared that the fire was deliberately set. Officials said it was not immediately clear whether the person died before the fire started.

Sgt. Michelle Reedy, a Prince George's County police spokeswoman, said detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.

County fire department spokesman Mark Brady said investigators expect to learn more about the victim when an autopsy is conducted.
