Area Events for Car Free Day

Tuesday

-- The District's Car Free Day Street Celebration will include everything from free basic bicycle repairs to tango dancing. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., F Street NW will be closed to traffic between Seventh and Ninth streets NW.

-- Bike and Roll Washington and Bike and Roll Alexandria offer free bike rentals on Car Free Day. Reservations are required; mention "Car Free D.C. Day." The District: 202-842-2453; Virginia: 703-548-7655.

Frederick County

TransIT Services of Frederick County provides free rides on its Connector and Shuttle routes.

Montgomery County

Montgomery County Commuter Services will be at Bethesda, Friendship Heights, Grosvenor-Strathmore, Silver Spring and Wheaton Metrorail stations between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m., providing information about transportation options.

Arlington's Car-Free Diet Celebration

Arlington County launches a Car-Free Diet Seven-Day Diet Plan at Mister Days, 3100 Clarendon Blvd., Clarendon, from 4 to 8 p.m. with free food and door prizes.

Try Transit Week

Try Transit Week is Sept. 21-25. The event educates Virginians about transportation options other than driving.
