D.C. police are investigating the death of an unidentified woman whose body was found Thursday in water near the Capital Yacht Club in Southwest Washington.

The woman, described as in her late 40s, was found beneath a pier. She was removed from the water about 9 a.m., a D.C. fire department spokesman said.

Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said the body showed "no outward signs of trauma" and that as of late Thursday, the death had not been classifed a homicide.
